The Pontiac Cubs were established in
2000. The team was created and managed by Mike Dawson its first two
years of play. In the first two years the Cubs established themselves
as one of the better teams in the Pontiac Class 'A' Oakland Division lead by
their solid pitching staff. However, in 2002 Mike turned over the
on-field duties to Jim Kosmerick as the Cubs merged with a number of former
Oakland Raiders players. This made the Cubs one of the top two teams
in the league as they finished second in the regular season each of the next
two seasons and won the playoffs each year. However, in both those
years the Cubs lost in the Best of Five Championship to the Parkers.
In 2004
control was once again turned back over to Mike and the Cubs once again won the
playoffs but again lost to the Parkers in the Best of Five Series. In 2005 the
Cubs got to the playoff championship game needing to win two against the Parkers
and ended up losing the second game to end their season. 2006 the Cubs
finished in third place and ended their season in the Semi-Finals of the
playoffs against the Red Sox. The 2007 season was a season of a great
start and a disappointing finish. The Cubs started 12-0 but finished
7-5 and got knocked out of the playoffs in two games. In 2008 the Cubs
moved to a new league for the first time in their history. The Cubs
played in the St. Clair Shors (SCS) MABL wood bat league. The 2008
season followed much of the same path as the 2007 though. The team
started out with a 9-2-1 record before finishing the regular season in
second place with a 22-7-3 record. Then like 2007 the team lost their
first two playoff games and were done for the year.
Through the 2008 season the Cubs have an all-time record
of 173-89-5 (including playoffs) in the Pontiac Class 'A' League and
the SCS MABL league, for
an all-time .648 winning percentage.
