Game
Summary
Once again the Red Sox good pitching
beat the Cubs hitting. The Cubs were able to put one run
on the board but the Red Sox scored once in the fourth, once in
the fifth and twice in the sixth to give the Cubs an uphill
climb if they wanted to win this one. With only four base
runners through the first five innings it was going to be a
tough task. In the sixth the Cubs managed to get two walks
and a ground rule double to score a run but that is all they
could put across. In all the Cubs managed only three hits
for the game and a total of six for the series. Not the
hitting performance they were looking for but they saw two of
the best pitchers they had faced all year. Congratulations
to the Red Sox for two outstanding games.

Game
Summary
Good pitching beats good hitting and
that is what happened Sunday night. The Red Sox good
pitching shut down the Cubs hitting. The Cubs managed only
three hits and struck out seven times. The Red Sox offense
got rolling right away in the first as they scored five runs
four hits and two walks. Cubs starter Lyle Dougherty
settled down after the first allowing only a single run in the
sixth but the Cubs bats never could get going against Red Sox
starter Justin Mark. Game two is Tuesday night: Gordon for
the Cubs and Robinson for the Red Sox.

Game
Summary
The Cubs and Tigers decided to
settle things with their sticks Monday night. The Cubs got
on the board in the first with a run but in the second the
Tigers scored four to take the lead. The Cubs cut the lead
to 4-2 in the third but then plated six runs in the fourth for
an 8-4 lead. The Cubs weren't done though as they added
four more in the fifth for a 12-4 lead. The Tigers would
not give up though as they came back with three of their own in
the fifth. The Cubs added a run in the sixth and then
finally put the game away with four more in the seventh.
The Tigers added a run in the bottom of the seventh but that was
all they could add. The Tigers and Cubs played two tough
games and after a rough regular season for the Tigers they
battled and played a good series. For the Cubs Eric
Vandereyk was solid on the mound. The Cubs defense didn't
help much allowing a total of four unearned runs. The bats
though made up for it knocking out 18 hits, including 8 doubles
and a home run. Kris Krstich was 6 for 7 in the series
with four doubles. Matt Cook hit his first homer of the
year. The Cubs will now wait to see who they play in the
second round on Sunday.

Krstich lead the Cubs both on the mound; no runs, 3 hits and 5
strikeouts, and at the plate; 3 for 3, 2 doubles and an RBI.

Summary
The Cubs and Tigers played on a
swampy Kyte Monroe field Sunday afternoon. The Cubs jumped
out early and took control of the game from the first inning
scoring three runs on a bases loaded wild pitch and then a Mike
Dawson double. In the second the Cubs put the game away
with seven runs including a three-run homer from Evan Dawley.
The tacked on two more in the third and then one in the fifth
for the mercy win. The Tigers scored two in the second and
one in the third but that was all they could do against starter
Adam Wooley who gave up just one earned run and struckout three.
Offensively the Cubs knocked out 14 hits to go along with their
13 runs. Five Cubs had two hits. The Cubs finish up
the regular season Monday night against the Reds. A win

Game
Summary
The Cubs and Orioles faced off again
Thursday night with the winner likely to get the third seed in
the playoffs. The Cubs got on the board first with a
two-run two-out single from Mike Dawson. In the fourth
Dawson again knocked in a run with two outs to give the Cubs a
3-0 lead. The Orioles got one back in the fifth on a walk
and a double but in the top of the sixth the Cubs put the game
away. The first six batter reached base on two walks,
three singles and an Oriole error, including an RBI single from
Evan Dawley and a two-run single from Dawson. Later in the
inning Tom Girodat doubled down the right-field line for
three-runs and then Kris Krstich doubled in a run. In all
the Cubs scored nine times in the sixth on six hits, three walks
and a hit batter. Dawson and Krstich each had three hits,
including two doubles and an RBI for Krstich and five RBI for
Dawson. Keith Lelli also had a multi-hit game for the
Cubs. On the mound Lyle Dougherty was dominate again
against the Orioles. In the first game of the year he beat
them 1-0. Thursday he allowed just the one run on five
hits while striking out eight. If the Cubs are able to win
their last three games they will get the third seed in the
playoffs even if they tie with the Orioles in the standings due
to their 3-1 record against the Orioles this year.

Game
Summary
The Cubs faced the Tigers on Sunday
afternoon with Fred Landry getting his first start of the year
on the mound in an emergency roll. This was Landry's first
start since 2006 when he pitched for the Detroit Bulls in the
Pontiac League. Landry did well striking out five and
allowing a single run in four innings of work. The Cubs
offense though took care of business as they pounded out 17
hits, scoring 14 runs in five innings. The Cubs got on the
board early in the first with two runs and then followed that up
with a six run second inning. They then added three in the
fourth and three more in the fifth to finish off the mercry.
Three Cubs players had three hits apiece (Evan Dawley, Keith
Lelli and Chris Trombley) and three more had two hits each.
The Cubs now wait until Thursday when they again face the
Orioles in a showdown for third place.

Game
Summary
Despite the umpiring, the Cubs and
Orioles battled in a great game Thursday night. The game
was a pitchers duel for most of the game. The Orioles got
on the board first with a bases loaded walk in the third and it
stayed 1-0 until the fifth when the Cubs loaded the bases
themselves. Fred Landry drew a walk to score the first
run, then Matt Cook hit a sac fly for the second and then Kris
Krstich drove in the third run of the inning for the Cubs.
It stayed 3-1 until the bottom of the sixth when with a man on
first and two out the Orioles fourth hitter, Surratt, hit a
grounder to short that Girodat mishandled but it popped in the
air right to Dawson at second but the ump called the runner at
second safe (the ump later said he missed the call). The
next hitter hit a long high fly down the line in left that fell
in allowing the Orioles to score two and tie the game. The
Cubs though came back in the seventh scoring four runs with Cook
driving in two, Dawley one and Dawson another. For the
game Cook and Krstich had two hits apiece and Roehm walked three
times. Vandereyk allowed one earned run while striking out
four.

Summary
The Cubs had to shake off some rust
Wednesday night after not playing for 11 days due to the rainout
last week. Starter Kris Krstich didn't have any trouble
with rust though as he went the distance allowing 4 hits and
striking out 6 in shutting out the Yankees. Offensively
the Cubs scored single runs in the first, second and third
innings and then added two more on a Krstich double off the top
of the wall in center in the sixth. Mike Dawson and Steve
Girodat led the team with two hits apiece but the Cubs managed
only six hits for the game. The Cubs turn around and take
on the Orioles who are right ahead of them in the standings.

and were able to handle the Yankees. The Cubs offense
managed nine hits but only five runs but that was more than
enough as Lyle Dougherty shut the Yankees down on just two hits
and two unearned runs. The Cubs got on the board in the
second after the Yankees scored in the first. The Cubs
added three more runs in the third on an RBI double by Mike
Dawson and then a key two out two strike single from Chris
Trombley scoring two runs. In the sixth the Cubs added an

Summary
The Cubs and Marlins went back and
forth in this one. The Marlins got on the board first with
two unearned runs in the bottom of the first. The Cubs
then came back to take a 3-2 lead with three runs in the top of
the second inning on a 2-run double by Steve Girodat and a Fred
Landry single. The Cubs added another run in the top of the
third on an RBI double by Kris Krstich but the Marlins came back
with two of their own in the bottom of the third. In the
fifth the Marlins took the lead with an RBI single but the Cubs
tied it back up with a solo homer in the top of the sixth from
Mike Dawson. Once again though the Marlins countered with
two runs in the bottom of the inning for a 7-5 lead. In
the top of the seventh the Cubs loaded the bases on three walks
and then with two outs Krstich singled home the tying runs.
The Cubs held the Marlins in the bottom of the seventh but
couldn't score in their half of the eighth. The Marlins
though were able to score the winning run on a botched double
play attempt in the bottom of the eighth. For the Cubs
Krstich, Dawson and Landry each had two hits. Krstich
drove in three and Girodat drove in two. Steve Gordon went
the distance for the Cubs on the mound with only three of the
eight runs being earned.

Summary
This one liked like it would be a
slugfest but in the end the Red Sox was the team that did the
slugging. In the first the Sox scored two unearned runs
but then in the bottom of the first the Cubs came back with
three runs on a three-run homer from Randy Nettles. In the
third though the scored three more with the help of a couple
defensive miscues from the Cubs. The Sox scored two more
in the fourth on a two-run homer and then again in the fifth on
a two-run homer. On the mound Scott Storey shut the Cubs
down after the first as the Cubs managed only five hits, all
from Randy Nettles (2) and Steve Girodat (3). The Cubs did
draw five walks and were hit twice though. Mike Dawson
started and had some good innings but ended up giving up nine
hits and seven earned runs. Adam Wooley relieved and there
two-scoreless innings. The Cubs next play Sunday in the
final game against the Red Sox for the year as they try to even
up the season series.

Game
Summary
The final score of this one does not
show how close this one was for most of the game. The Cubs
scored 2 in the first on a leadoff double from Matt Cook and
then a single from Randy Nettles and then a Red error.
That was all the scoring the Cubs were able to do until the
seventh. After those two hits in the first the Cubs
managed only two more hits from the second through the sixth
inning and the Reds picther, Filiccia, struck out 13 Cubs on the
night. However, in the seventh the Cubs broke it open with
five runs on seven straight hits. The innings started off
with a leadoff homer from Kris Krstich. Then Dawley
singles, Nettles doubled, Reitman singled, Roehm tripled and
then Landry and Steve Girodat each singled. On the mound
for the Cubs Krstich was pitching on three days rest after
throwing seven innings on Sunday and he came with his best game
of the year throwing a complete game shutout. Krstich
struck out nine and allowed only one walk to even his record at
3-3 for the year. The Cubs now have over a week off as
they next play Friday, July 10 against the second place Red Sox.

Rider walk and a couple of stolen bases and then a Steve Girodat
single. The Cubs added three more in the fourth to break

Landry and a fielder's choice RBI from Tom Girodat. In the
sixth the Cubs added to their lead with a two-run double from
Landry. The Brewers got on the board with two of their own

Summary
The Cubs took on the newest SCS team
the Brewers in their second game on Sunday. The Brewers
jumped out to a big lead in the second as the Cubs starter Matt
Van de Velde pinched a nerve in his neck warming up and
struggled with the first four batters walking all four.
Matt had to leave the game and Mike Dawson, for the second time
in the day, came in relief. Mike gave up a hit and a walk
and a Cub error helped the Brewers score 5 runs in the inning.
The Cubs though came all the way back in the third as they
scored seven runs on five hits, two walks and a Brewer error.
However, that was all the Cubs offense could put together.
The Brewers then came back in the top of the seventh scoring
three runs to take the lead. In the bottom half the Cubs
rallied with two outs to load the bases but couldn't get the hit
to bring in the tying or winning run.

Summary
In a rematch of the game Monday
night the Cubs and Marlins went at it again. The Cubs got
on the board first in the second as Dave Reitman doubled and
then scored after back-to-back singles. In the bottom half
of the innings the Marlins came back and took the lead on a
two-run homer from former Cubs Chris Baroli, who made a diving
catch in the top half of the inning in center. The Cubs
were able to tie it up in the third on a lead off walk by Jason
Rider, a sacrifice bunt and then a double by Kris Krstich, his
third double in as many games. The Marlins though did not
want to surrender the lead as they came back with their third
run of the game in their half of the inning. A lead-off
single and an error gave the Marlins the lead. The Cubs
though would not go away as they tied it back up in the top of
the fourth on a walk and a couple singles. The Marlins
once again took a 1-run lead in the sixth as after another
lead-off single and another Cub error. In the top of the
seventh thought the Cubs were able to plate 4 runs on 4 walks, 3
Marlin errors and zero hits. The Marlins got one on in the
bottom of the seventh but that was all they could manage.
For the Cubs Fred Landry and Josh Sanborn each had two hits.
Steve Gordon went the distance allowing 2 earned runs and
striking out 5. Mike Dawson left the game in the bottom of
the third with a twisted ankle on a play at second. The
Cubs now will wait until Wednesday next week to take on the
Tigers.

Summary
The Cubs opened up the 2009 season
facing the regular season champs from last year. As
expected this was a pitchers dual as both hurlers went the
distance. The Cubs managed 7 hits and the Orioles managed
only 4. The Cubs got on the board in the second when Kris
Krstich doubled and then Dave Reitman singled him home.
This would be all the scoring the Cubs would need, and get, as
Lyle Dougherty threw shutout ball, striking out 7. Matt
Cook and Jimmy Roehm each had two hits and Krstich's double was
the only Cubs extra-base hit of the game.
