Randy Nettles also homered.  Girodat had 3-hits and so did Mike Dawson.  The Cubs are now in second place heading into their final two games of the year against the Tigers and Reds.

Game Summary
The Cubs got some payback against the Tigers for their loss a couple weeks ago.  The Cubs beat the Tigers 5-0 behind a good pitching performance by Kris Krstich and some key hits.  Both teams battled the sun early in the game as it was hard for the hitters to pick up the ball out of the pitchers hand, however, in the fourth the sun had dropped and the Cubs were able to string together a few hits with the help of a couple of Tiger errors.  Randy Nettles led off with a single and was able to make it to second as the left fielder bobbled the ball.  He scored as Krstich got on with an error.  Reitman was on by a fielder's choice and then Tom Girodat singles followed by a 2-run double by Mike Dawson.  The Cubs added a run in the fifth on a couple of hits and a walk and another in the sixth on a hit and a couple of Tiger errors.  Tigers were able to get a couple of guys on in the first but couldn't score and in the fourth they had a runner picked off of second to end a threat.  They also put two on in the fifth but were shut down by Krstich.  The Cubs now go on to face the Angels for first place on Sunday.

Game Summary
The Cubs finally got to the Orioles, after two loses and a tie, in their fourth meeting of the year.  The Cubs jumped out early in this one with four runs in the first inning.  Matt Cook lead off with a walk, then Jon VanSon doubled scoring Cook.  Evan Dawley singled and then Randy Nettles singled scoring another run.  Dawley then scored on Nettles steal of second and Kris Krstich singled home Nettles for the Cubs fourth run of the inning.  It looked like the Cubs would run away with this one but they failed to score the rest of the game.  The Orioles came back with one of their own in the bottom of the first and scored another in the third but starter Chris Johnson held them in check and Jon VanSon closed it out for the win.  VanSon and Dawley each had two hits and Johnson went 5 2/3 innings for the win.  The Cubs next face the Mets on Wednesday.

Game Summary
The Cubs and Orioles had another tight fought game and this time there was no winner.  The Orioles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning but the Cubs came right back in the bottom of the first.  Matt Cook lead off with a double, followed by a Jon VanSon single and then Evan Dawley walked to load the bases.  Randy Nettles hit a sac fly and then Steve Girodat doubled.  Kris Krstich hit another sac fly as the Cubs took a 3-2 lead.  In the top of the second the Orioles again scored two runs and they took a 4-3 lead.  In what was looking like a slugfest from there on out it was a pitchers duel.  The Cubs scored the only other run of the game on a lead off double by Dave Reitman, a sac bunt by Tom Girodat and then a two-out double by Mike Dawson.  From there the pitchers were able to halt the scoring.  Each team threatened but neither could push across the winning run.  After 8-innings the umps called the game on time even though the time limit had just expired and the teams weren't given their extra inning to break the tie.  Krstich went all 8-innings with just 2 of the 4 runs earned.  Mike Dawson had 2-hits for the Cubs.  The Cubs now take on the Tigers on Monday and then face the Orioles again on Sunday.

Game Summary
The Cubs and Orioles battled through another pitchers duel and again the Orioles came out on top, this time 2-1.  The Cubs got on the board first with a bases loaded walk in the first inning but that would be the only run they would push across.  The Orioles tied the score in the third with an unearned run and then took the lead in the sixth.  A controversial collision at the plate ended the Orioles threat in the sixth.  The Cubs threatened in the bottom of the seventh with two outs as Tom Girodat singled and then two walks loaded the bases but the Cubs couldn't score the tying run.  Steve Gordon went six for the Cubs allowing just the one earned run and Jon VanSon threw the seventh.  On the offensive side the Cubs struggled as they only managed 4 hits and struckout 10 times.  The Cubs looks to get payback as they face the Orioles again on Sunday.

Player of the Game: Mike Dawson

Game Summary
The Cubs get their first win of the season in dramatic come from behind fashion.  The Angels starter, Riley, went 6 scoreless innings striking out five and giving up just 2 hits but on the other side the Cubs starter, Chris Baroli, went 5 innings striking out 8 and giving up no hits.  The Angels scored 1 in the second, one in the fifth and one in the sixth for a 3-0 lead going into the top of the seventh.  In the seventh the Angels new pitcher, Yates, walked three guys and with two-out Mike Dawson's one-hopped the fence in right for a three-run double to tie the score.  In the top of the eighth Steve Girodat singled in the go-ahead run.  Steve Gordon pitched the final three innings for the win.  The Cubs threatened a few times getting runners to third with less than two outs but until the seventh they could not bring a run across the plate.  On the mound Baroli was overpowering.  He had a little trouble with control (with the help of the ump) but threw very well.  As did Gordon, who settled down after allowing three consecutive hits in the sixth.

Game Summary
The season opener for the Cubs was an up and down battle.  The Braves scored first with a run in the bottom of the second.  The Cubs tied the score in the top of the fourth on a walk by Rider, 2 stolen bases and an error.  The Braves took back the lead on a homer to center from Miller.  The Cubs then scored twice in the second on a bases loaded RBI single from Dawson followed by an RBI ground out from Rider.  They added a fourth run in the sixth for a 4-2 lead.  In the bottom of the seventh though the Braves lead off with a walk and followed that with a strikeout, a double, a single and a double for two runs to tie the game.  In the bottom of the eighth with two outs the Braves again started things with a walk and wild pitch and then a single after an intentional walk for the winning run.  Tough loss for the Cubs but a good game.
