CUBS NEWS

Rained Out Again:
The Cubs and Mets were rained out on Wednesday night.  The Cubs have now been rained out 6 times.  They also had their Memorial Weekend doubleheader canceled so in all the Cubs have had 8 games postponed.  They have made up two so the team still has 6 games to make up.

Cubs Back on Track:
The Cubs got back on the winning side of things Sunday finally beating the Orioles, 4-2.  It looked like the Cubs would score a lot of runs in this one as they got 4 runs in the first but that would be all they could score and thanks to the Cubs pitching that would be all they would need.  Box Score and Game Summary

Tigers Stun Cubs:
The Tigers keep the Cubs rough streak going as they beat the Cubs 5-4.  The Cubs are now 1-4-1 in their last six games and now do not play until Sunday against the Orioles.  The Cubs had a 2-0 lead until the Tigers doubled them up with 4 runs in the fourth.  The Cubs though tied it in the sixth but then with 3 consecutive singles in the bottom of the seventh the Tigers came away with the victory.  Box Score and Game Summary

Cubs and Orioles Settle for Tie:
In the third meeting of the year the Cubs and Orioles played yet another close fought game.  This time though there was no winner as the teams had to settle for a 4-4 tie after 8-innings.  The Orioles started things off in the first with two runs but the Cubs quickly took the lead in the bottom of the inning 3-2.  The Orioles then scored two more in the second and the Cubs tied in the fourth.  Box Score and Game Summary

Orioles Top Cubs Again:
In the second meeting of the top two teams in the league the Orioles edged out the Cubs again, 2-1.  The Cubs scored first in the first inning but couldn't manage any more runs despite a threat in the bottom of the seventh.  The Cubs will face the Orioles next on Sunday and then again in a week.  Box Score and Game Summary

Roehm Out for Season:
Cubs outfielder Jimmy Roehm is out for the season as he was diagnosed with a torn labrum this past week.  Roehm hurt his shoulder in the game on Sunday, June 8 against the Angels diving back to second.  Roehm was hitting .348 in 9 games for the Cubs.  The team hopes he will be able to come back next season.

Cubs Rained Out Again:
The Cubs were rained out for the fifth time this season (not including the 2 games postponed Memorial Weekend) as their game against the Mets on Friday was canceled.  No make up date is scheduled.  The Cubs now have 3 of 4 games against the second place Orioles.

Cubs Top Yankees in Makeup Game:
The Cubs topped the Yankees 8-3 in the makeup game from Monday night.  Amidst a swarm of Fish  Flies the Cubs were finally able to get a full game in after two consecutive rainouts. Box Score and Game Summary

Makeup Game Set for Thursday:
The Cubs and Yankees will make up their game from Monday night this Thursday, June 12 at 8:30 at Kyte-1.

Rain, Rain Go Away:
The Cubs were rained out again on Monday night.  This is the third rainout in 4 games for the Cubs.  The Tigers-Cubs game from last week Tuesday may be made up on Thursday.  Confirmation is expected to come later in the day on Tuesday.

Storm Washes Away Cubs Romp:
The Cubs and Angels made it to the fifth inning when the storm hit on Sunday.  Unfortunately for the Cubs they did not get through the fifth inning.  The Cubs lead 12-1 but because the teams didn't finish the fifth the rules state the game is to be replayed from the beginning!  The Cubs are not happy about this rule and will look to have it changed next year.  The Cubs also had bad news earlier in the game as Jimmy Roehm went down with a dislocated left shoulder.  The Cubs placed Roehm on the 15-day DL.  He will be examined later this week to determine the severity of the injury.

Braves Top Cubs Again:
In their third meeting of the year the Braves took a 2 games to 1 lead in their season series as they beat the Cubs 8-5 Thursday night.  The Cubs have now lost two in a row for the first time this year.  The two teams will now not play again until the end of July.

Cubs-Tigers Game Rained Out:
The Cubs and Tigers game for Tuesday, June 3rd was rained out.  No make-up date has been announced.

Orioles Stop Cubs Streak:
The Orioles ended the Cubs 9 game winning streak by beating them 2-0.  The Cubs got another solid starting performance but their bats couldn't get going.  Box Score and Game Summary

Cubs Roll to Ninth in a Row:
The Cubs dominated again on the mound.  Steve Gordon threw a 3-hit 6-inning shutout for his third win of the year.  The Cubs also took charge with their bats as they scored two in the second and then 5 in the third and then one in the sixth before the game was called due to rain and lightening.  Box Score and Game Summary

Cubs Mercy Mets Again:
The Cubs again mercied the Mets, 12-2, bring their record to 8-1-1 and their winning streak to 8 games in a row.  The Mets scored first but the Cubs took the lead in the bottom of the first and then broke it open in the third with 7 runs.  The Cubs now have two tough games against the Red Sox on Friday and the Orioles on Sunday.  Box Score and Game Summary

Cubs Avenge Loss:
Friday night the Cubs avenged their only loss of the season by beating the Braves 6-0.  Eric Vandereyk stepped in a threw a great game for the Cubs.  Eric went 5-innings for the win and Jon Van Son closed the game out for the team's seventh win.

Cubs Win Wet One:
The Cubs and Reds played in the rain for most of the night Wednesday but that didn't stop the Cubs from winning their sixth in a row.  Behind another solid pitching performance, timely hitting and some wildness from the Reds pitchers the Cubs beat the Reds 11-3.  Box Score and Game Summary

Games Sunday, May 25 Postponed:
The Cubs doubleheader scheduled for Sunday May 25 has been postponed due to teams having a hard time getting a team because of the Memorial Day Weekend.  Makeup dates have not been set yet.

Streak Hits Five with Win over Sox:
The Cubs extended their winning streak to five games with a 4-1 win over the Red Sox with some great pitching and some timely two out hitting.  It was a close game throughout but the Cubs got on the board with two in the third and then single runs in the sixth and seventh.  The Tigers scored their run in the seventh but couldn't put any more on the board. Box Score and Game Summary

Cubs Win Fourth in a Row:
The Cubs met the Tigers on Sunday and won their fourth game in a row.  The Cubs took a 2-0 early lead in the first and the Tigers got on the board in the second but after that it was all Cubs with one each in the third and fourth and then five in the sixth.  The Tigers added one in their half of the sixth but that was it. Box Score and Game Summary

Another Easy One for the Cubs:
For the second straight game the Cubs shutout and mercied their opponent.  This time it was the Yankees that felt the beating from the Cubs.  The Cubs have now won 3 in a row and face the Tigers on Sunday.

Cubs Trounce Mets:
After getting rained out on Wednesday the Cubs came in Thursday ready and they ended up mercying the Mets 12-0.  Behind solid pitching from Steve Gordon and a lot of offense the Cubs have their first winning streak of the year.  The Cubs now play Friday to make up the rainout on Wednesday.

Cubs Get First Win with Comeback:
Behind great pitching by both teams the Cubs and Angels went another 7 innings tied.  This time though the Cubs won in the 8th.  Chris Baroli went 5 innings striking out 8 and Steve Gordon went three.  The Cubs came back from a 3-0 in the seventh with a two-out bases loaded double by Mike Dawson and won in the eighth with a run scoring single from Steve Girodat.
